In this episode of Rowing with the Homies, I look at why so many of us fall into "musical paralysis," and how our refusal to seek out new sound reveals a deeper fear of internal destabilization. Drawing on critical pedagogy from Paulo Freire and bell hooks, I break down the difference between performative aesthetic posture and true internal alignment. Using my experience in a local vinyl listening club as a practical framework, I share how we can move past friction, expand our tolerance for discomfort, and create intentional rituals of growth in our personal lives and communities. Finally, I reflect on what it means to use new frequencies as an act of quiet resistance when depression feels like a locked groove on a scratched record.
